Jack Schlossberg, controversial grandson of JFK, to launch campaign for Nadler’s New York congressional seat

Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of President John F. Kennedy, is officially launching his campaign to replace retiring Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) in New York’s 12th Congressional District.

In an email sent to supporters on Tuesday, Schlossberg announced, “Jack here with an exciting update .. we are OFFICIALLY launching Jack for New York TOMORROW, November 12 !!” The message was obtained by Politico.

The 32-year-old had previously teased in September that he was forming a committee to explore a bid for the New York City congressional seat currently held by Nadler, who is not seeking re-election for an 18th term in 2026. “We’ve been working so hard over here and cannot wait to kick the campaign into high gear,” Schlossberg added.

By Tuesday evening, Schlossberg’s campaign website was live, featuring the slogan: “A new generation of leadership for New York.” A statement on the site reads,
“Each generation of Americans is tested. The 2026 midterms is our moment. I’m running for Congress because the best part of the greatest city on earth needs to be heard loud and clear in Washington and deserves a representative who won’t back down.”

Known for his outspoken nature on social media, Schlossberg has been a vocal critic of the Trump administration, including his cousin, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Earlier this year, he sparked controversy by mocking RFK Jr.’s spasmodic dysphonia, a condition that affects speech, in an Instagram post.

Schlossberg’s social media posts have also included provocative remarks, such as asking followers if Vice President J.D. Vance’s wife, Usha, is “hotter” than his late grandmother Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. He described his cousin’s wife, actress Cheryl Hines, as looking “super-dehydrated,” and suggested conservative CNN pundit Scott Jennings drinks his “own pee” in a series of outspoken posts on X (formerly Twitter).

The son of former U.S. Ambassador Caroline Kennedy, Schlossberg gained prominence last year as a political correspondent for Vogue and was given a speaking role at the Democratic National Convention.

“I also bring two years now of experience in a toxic and polluted media environment where, unlike a lot of people, I know how to breathe that air,” he told The New York Times on Tuesday. “I think that this district needs somebody who knows how to fight back effectively in this new political era that we’re living in.”

However, Nadler has expressed skepticism about Schlossberg’s chances. In September, he told CNN,
“Well, there’s nothing particularly good or bad about a Kennedy holding my seat. But the Kennedy, unlike Schlossberg, should be somebody with a record of public service, a record of public accomplishment, and he doesn’t have one. [H]e certainly is not going to be a major candidate. There will be major candidates.”

Schlossberg is set to compete in a crowded Democratic primary field that includes state Assemblyman Micah Lasher, who is expected to receive Nadler’s endorsement, and Liam Elkind, a 26-year-old nonprofit leader and community organizer. Elkind has previously criticized Nadler, 78, for lacking the energy to challenge former President Trump and lead a new generation of Democrats.

As of now, Schlossberg’s campaign has not responded to requests for comment from The Post.
