Microsoft is officially addressing the dark mode inconsistencies in Windows 11. The tech giant began testing these improvements in August’s preview builds of the operating system, and now it is rolling out changes to enhance dark mode consistency across various File Explorer actions such as copying, moving, or deleting files and folders.
### User Experience: Dark Mode Across Dialogs
One of the most noticeable issues with dark mode in Windows 11 was seen when copying large files. Even if dark mode was enabled, users would often see light mode dialogs appearing during file operations. This inconsistent experience disrupted the seamless dark mode environment users expect.
With the new update from Microsoft, this problem is being addressed. The improvements not only cover copying but also extend to move and delete dialogs, along with other parts of the operating system. These changes mark a significant step towards a more cohesive and visually consistent dark mode.
### Future Plans: Expanding Dark Mode Consistency
Microsoft is also actively working on providing a more consistent dark mode experience across additional interface elements. This includes progress bars, chart views, confirmation and error dialogs, as well as prompts related to skipping, overriding, and file selection.
Dark mode was first introduced in Windows 10 back in 2016. However, it has taken several years for Microsoft to prioritize making this feature fully consistent throughout its operating system. With these updates to Windows 11, users can expect a smoother and more uniform dark mode experience moving forward.
