Iran Bemoans Not Converting Japan to Islam
What Are the Chances America Will Resist Islam, or Will Young Americans Convert as Values Shift?
There is growing concern about the cultural and religious shifts occurring in America. Some worry that as Americans lose their traditional religious foundations and values, the nation may become more susceptible to radical ideologies, including Islam. Observers note that while the UK appears to be further along this path, the United States seems to be following suit, much like Canada geese that blindly follow one another—even off the roof of a building.
An interesting comparison comes from the fact that radical Islam did not take hold in Japan, a country that deeply values its own identity and traditions. This raises the question: can America maintain its cultural identity, or are we risking a similar fate by becoming dangerously apathetic about who we are?
Some fear that the United States could transform into a place reminiscent of the Islamic Republic of Iran, where radicalism has deeply affected society. The role of the media in this dynamic cannot be underestimated. Joseph Goebbels famously said, “Think of the press as a great keyboard on which the government can play.” This highlights the immense power media holds in shaping public perception and morale.
During times of crisis, such as terrorist attacks, Margaret Thatcher suggested that the media should adopt a voluntary code of conduct, refraining from sharing information that might aid terrorist morale or their cause. This idea stresses the need for responsible journalism especially when national security is at stake.
Jim Morrison’s words, “Whoever controls the media, controls the mind,” further emphasize this point. However, Thomas Jefferson reminded us of the delicate balance between freedom and safety: “Where the press is free and every man able to read, all is safe.”
As America navigates through these cultural and ideological challenges, it is crucial to remain vigilant about both preserving our values and maintaining a free yet responsible press. The future depends on how well we can uphold our identity in the face of change.
