“I fired a light behind his b***” – former WWE champion reveals what he told Jey Uso before recent match
A former WWE champion recently opened up about how he motivated Jey Uso ahead of a recent singles match between the two stars at a house show.
RAW star Rusev locked horns with The YEET Master at WWE SuperShow Japan on October 18. Although The Bulgarian Brute lost the bout, he appeared to thoroughly enjoy the match.
In a recent interview with Shakiel Mahjouri of CBS Sports, Rusev revealed that he told Jey Uso he planned to go all out and wouldn’t apologize for it. The 39-year-old explained that his motivation came from his limited in-ring appearances during his time in AEW.
“I wrestled Jey Uso in Japan, and I kind of had to light a fire up behind because I wanted to go, man,” Rusev said. “I had to tell him, ‘Hey, I’m going so hard, and I’m not gonna apologize. I’m going so hard because I’ve had a period of time where you have one match and you don’t know when the next match is coming. That’s a very scary situation.
“Now, we have this hot crowd in Japan, let’s freaking go man, let’s go 150% because this building has all that history — not just all these sumo guys over here on top of the rafters, but so much professional wrestling history is in that building.’”
The former three-time WWE United States Champion added that after their conversation, he and Jey Uso delivered an impressive 15-minute contest.
Rusev also shared that he learned the old-school wrestling mentality — going out there and giving your best effort even when you don’t feel well — from legends like John Cena, Mark Henry, and Big Show.
“I fired a light behind his b***, and we went and kicked a** for 15 minutes, man. That’s what I love about professional wrestling. Sometimes you don’t feel good but you go out there, and you feel it, and you do the best you can. That’s the old school mentality. That’s what I learned from John Cena and Mark Henry and Big Show and all of these old-school guys,” Rusev said. [H/T: Fightful]

### Jey Uso and Rusev Both Fall Short at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event
At the recent WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, Jey Uso and Rusev competed in separate championship matches but unfortunately neither secured a victory.
Rusev competed against Dominik Mysterio and Penta in a triple threat match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. He came close to winning when he had masked luchador Penta locked in the Accolade submission. However, Rusev released the hold prematurely after “Dirty” Dom rang the bell, thinking he had won. The Judgment Day member continued to cheat his way to another title defense.
In the main event, CM Punk and Jey Uso battled for the World Heavyweight Championship, which had been vacated by Seth Rollins due to injury. The two stars went back and forth in what was considered a rather underwhelming match, ending with The Second City Saint securing the victory.
It will be interesting to see how both Rusev and Jey Uso respond to the setbacks they faced at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
