Hundreds turn out in NoHo for liquidation of costumes used in decades of TV, film
**Family-Run Costume Shop That Served Hollywood for Decades Closes Its Doors**
NORTH HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A beloved family-run costume shop that has supplied the movie industry for nearly 50 years is closing its doors. Costume Rentals Corporation (CRC) held a massive liquidation sale this past weekend, giving the public a rare chance to own a piece of Hollywood history just in time for Halloween.
This was CRC’s first-ever sale open to the public, featuring racks upon racks of unique vintage items. Video footage captured a massive crowd rushing to the sale, with hundreds of people lined up outside the building, eagerly waiting for the gates to open. Many were excited to get their hands on rare, collectible Hollywood costumes.
The business shared that many of the clothing pieces on sale had been worn on screen, likely featured in some of viewers’ favorite movies and TV shows. CRC proudly provided costumes for major productions including *Saving Private Ryan*, *Forrest Gump*, *Fast and Furious*, *Barbie*, *Joker*, and countless others.
For nearly five decades, CRC has served the film and television industry by supplying costumes for every genre and era imaginable. Sarah Allegro from CRC commented on the event, saying, “It was an overwhelming turnout. We were very proud of that. People knew that we have pieces in here from the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, and they’re vintage pieces that a lot of the boutiques can’t get their hands on. And a lot of casting directors had their teams out here pulling for active shows.”
The decision to close comes amid ongoing challenges and changes in Hollywood over recent years — including the pandemic, studio hiatuses, and industry strikes — making it tough for this multi-generational family business to continue operating.
Although the sale has ended, CRC shared some insight on what’s next. They plan to donate some costume items to museums and non-profit organizations. While not yet ready to publicly announce their next business venture, they encourage those interested to follow CRC on social media for updates.
This closing marks the end of an era for a unique business that played an important role in Hollywood’s costume legacy.
