Ousmane Dembélé was in tears after winning the first Ballon d’Or Award of his career in Paris on Monday, September 22, 2025. The PSG forward became extremely emotional during his victory speech, recounting his difficult upbringing and the sacrifices his family made to help him reach the stage where he is today.
During the ceremony, the host invited Dembélé’s mother to join him on the podium. The heartfelt moment culminated in a warm hug shared between mother and son, highlighting the deep bond that has supported him throughout his journey.
Dembélé edged out Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and PSG teammate Vitinha to claim the award for the best football player in the world. The French World Cup winner earned the prestigious trophy following an outstanding season with PSG, during which his contributions were instrumental in helping the club secure the treble. His consistent performances in clutch matches played a significant role in swaying the votes in his favor.
