Grigor Dimitrov’s actress girlfriend Eiza Gonzalez swells with pride as Bulgarian wins his 1st match back at Paris Masters months after horror injury
After 14 weeks of recovery from a severe injury sustained during the 2025 Wimbledon Championship, Grigor Dimitrov made a triumphant return to the court at the Paris Masters. He faced France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the Round of 64 and secured a straight-sets victory, 7-6(5), 6-1.
Dimitrov’s actress girlfriend, Eiza Gonzalez, watched the match from afar and showed her support by resharing clips of the Bulgarian tennis star’s entrance, complete with warm applause from the crowd. She also shared a highlight where Dimitrov outsmarted his opponent in the second set, calling him a “Warrior” on her Instagram stories and adding firecracker emojis to express her excitement.
### The Injury and Road to Recovery
In July, Dimitrov suffered a pectoral muscle tear during his Round of 16 match against Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon. At the time, Dimitrov was leading by two sets and had even taken a 3-3 tie in the third set before the injury forced him to retire from the match. Sinner went on to win the prestigious All England Club title by defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the final.
### Reflecting on Time Away from Tennis
Ahead of his return at the Paris Masters, Dimitrov shared how stepping back from tennis allowed him to focus on other aspects of his life.
“It was the first time in almost twenty years that I could really be at home for the summer, so I took advantage of these moments. I wasn’t really following what was happening on the tour; I wasn’t trying to stay connected,” Dimitrov revealed.
### Back on Court with Determination
During his comeback, Dimitrov showcased his skill by breaking his opponent three times in the second set. After the match, he reflected on the challenges of being sidelined for much of the season due to injury.
“I’m still trying to wrap my head around the whole time away from the court. I knew that coming to competition was going to be a difficult task. I just wanted to come out and test myself, give myself a chance. It’s a good night. I’m taking it in,” he stated.
He also expressed gratitude to the enthusiastic crowd, saying, “It’s such an amazing crowd and towards the end of the year, you really feel that energy. I feel very appreciated all around. That gives me great gratitude just to be back.”
### Looking Ahead
Mentally prepared and in a good headspace, Dimitrov hopes to perform well at the Paris Masters and then focus on a healthy and successful 2026 season.
