Grigor Dimitrov’s actress girlfriend Eiza Gonzalez swells with pride as Bulgarian wins his 1st match back at Paris Masters months after horror injury
After 14 weeks of recovery following a horrific injury sustained at the 2025 Wimbledon Championship, Grigor Dimitrov returned to the court for his Round of 64 match against France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard at the Paris Masters. Showing great resilience, Dimitrov won the match in straight sets, 7-6(5), 6-1.
Watching from afar was Dimitrov’s actress girlfriend, Eiza Gonzalez. She reshared a clip of the Bulgarian tennis star’s entrance to warm applause from the crowd and captioned it with firecracker emojis. She also shared a highlight where Dimitrov outwitted his opponent in the second set, calling him a “Warrior” on her Instagram stories.
In July, Dimitrov suffered a pectoral muscle tear during his Round of 16 match against Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon. Interestingly, Dimitrov was leading by two sets and was tied in the third before the injury forced him to retire from the match. Sinner went on to win the Wimbledon title by defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the final.
Ahead of his Paris Masters comeback, Dimitrov reflected on the time away from tennis and how it benefited him. “It was the first time in almost twenty years that I could really be at home for the summer, so I took advantage of these moments. I wasn’t really following what was happening on the tour, I wasn’t trying to stay connected,” he shared.
During his return, Dimitrov demonstrated his prowess by breaking his opponent three times in the second set. After the match, he opened up about the challenges of missing most of the second half of the season while recovering from his injury.
“I’m still trying to wrap my head around the whole time away from the court. I knew that coming to competition was going to be a difficult task. I just wanted to come out and test myself, give myself a chance. It’s a good night. I’m taking it in,” Dimitrov said.
He also expressed gratitude for the support from the crowd, adding, “It’s such an amazing crowd, and towards the end of the year, you really feel that energy. I feel very appreciated all around. That gives me great gratitude just to be back.”
Mentally, Dimitrov said he was in a good headspace before the tournament began. Looking ahead, he hopes to perform well at the Paris Masters and then shift his focus toward a healthy and successful 2026 season.
