Grigor Dimitrov’s actress girlfriend Eiza Gonzalez swells with pride as Bulgarian wins his 1st match back at Paris Masters months after horror injury
After 14 weeks following the horror injury he suffered at the 2025 Wimbledon Championship, Grigor Dimitrov stepped back onto the court to play in the Round of 64 match against France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard at the Paris Masters. Dimitrov won the match in straight sets, 7-6(5), 6-1, showcasing a strong return to competitive tennis.
Dimitrov’s actress girlfriend, Eiza Gonzalez, watched the game unfold from afar. She reshared a clip of the Bulgarian tennis star’s entry, accompanied by warm applause from the crowd. Along with firecracker emojis, she expressed her excitement and support. She also shared a highlight point where Dimitrov outwitted his opponent in the second set, calling him a “Warrior” on her Instagram stories.
Trending in July, Grigor Dimitrov suffered a pectoral muscle tear during his Round of 16 match against Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon. Interestingly, Dimitrov was leading by two sets and was tied in the third before he could no longer continue due to the injury. Sinner went on to win the All England Club title by defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the final.
Ahead of his Paris Masters return, Dimitrov reflected on how stepping back from tennis helped him in other ways. “It was the first time in almost twenty years that I could really be at home for the summer, so I took advantage of these moments. I wasn’t really following what was happening on the tour, I wasn’t trying to stay connected,” he shared.
In his return match, Dimitrov broke his opponent’s serve three times in the second set, demonstrating his prowess on court. After the victory, he shed light on what it was like to miss most of the second half of the season while recovering from his injury.
“I’m still trying to wrap my head around the whole time away from the court. I knew that coming to competition was going to be a difficult task. I just wanted to come out and test myself, give myself a chance. It’s a good night. I’m taking it in,” Dimitrov said.
He also praised the crowd, saying, “It’s such an amazing crowd and towards the end of the year, you really feel that energy. I feel very appreciated all around. That gives me great gratitude just to be back.”
Mentally, Dimitrov said he was in a good headspace before the tournament began. He hopes to perform well in the Paris Masters before shifting his focus to a healthy 2026 season.
