Grigor Dimitrov’s actress girlfriend Eiza Gonzalez swells with pride as Bulgarian wins his 1st match back at Paris Masters months after horror injury
After 14 weeks following the horrific injury he suffered at the 2025 Wimbledon Championship, Grigor Dimitrov stepped back onto the court to play in the Round of 64 match against France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard at the Paris Masters. Dimitrov secured a straight-sets victory, winning 7-6(5), 6-1.
Dimitrov’s actress girlfriend, Eiza Gonzalez, watched the match from afar. She reshared a clip of the Bulgarian tennis star’s entrance, where warm applause from the crowd could be heard. Accompanying the post, she added firecracker emojis to express her excitement. Eiza also reshared a highlight point in which Dimitrov outwitted his opponent in the second set, calling him a “Warrior” on her Instagram stories.
### Injury Recap
In July, Grigor Dimitrov suffered a pectoral muscle tear during his Round of 16 match against Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon. At that point, Dimitrov was leading by two sets and was tied in the third before the injury forced him to retire. Sinner went on to claim the All England Club title by defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the final.
### Taking Time Off
Ahead of his comeback at the Paris Masters, Dimitrov reflected on the benefits of stepping away from tennis. “It was the first time in almost twenty years that I could really be at home for the summer, so I took advantage of these moments,” he said. “I wasn’t really following what was happening on the tour, I wasn’t trying to stay connected.”
### Showcasing His Prowess
In his return match, Dimitrov displayed impressive skill by breaking his opponent three times in the second set. After the match, he opened up about the challenges of missing most of the season due to injury and the mental toll it took.
“I’m still trying to wrap my head around the whole time away from the court,” Dimitrov said. “I knew that coming to competition was going to be a difficult task. I just wanted to come out and test myself, give myself a chance. It’s a good night. I’m taking it in.”
He also praised the crowd’s energy, especially at this point in the year. “It’s such an amazing crowd and towards the end of the year, you really feel that energy. I feel very appreciated all around. That gives me great gratitude just to be back,” Dimitrov added.
### Looking Ahead
Dimitrov revealed he was in a good mental space before the tournament began and expressed optimism about his future. He hopes to perform well at the Paris Masters and then focus on maintaining a healthy season in 2026.
