Grigor Dimitrov’s actress girlfriend Eiza Gonzalez swells with pride as Bulgarian wins his 1st match back at Paris Masters months after horror injury
After 14 weeks of recovery following a horror injury at the 2025 Wimbledon Championship, Grigor Dimitrov made a triumphant return to the court at the Paris Masters. He faced France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the Round of 64 and won decisively in straight sets, 7-6(5), 6-1.
Dimitrov’s actress girlfriend, Eiza Gonzalez, watched the match from afar and showed her support by resharing clips of the Bulgarian star’s entry onto the court, which was met with warm applause from the crowd. She echoed the excitement using firecracker emojis and also shared a highlight where Dimitrov outwitted his opponent in the second set. On her Instagram stories, she affectionately called him a “Warrior.”
### Injury and Comeback
Back in July, Dimitrov suffered a pectoral muscle tear during his Round of 16 match against Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon. Up by two sets and tied in the third, Dimitrov was forced to retire due to the injury. Sinner went on to win the prestigious All England Club title by defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the final.
Ahead of his Paris Masters return, Dimitrov reflected on how stepping away from tennis helped him in unexpected ways. “It was the first time in almost twenty years that I could really be at home for the summer, so I took advantage of these moments. I wasn’t really following what was happening on the tour, I wasn’t trying to stay connected,” he said.
### Return to Competition
In his comeback match, Dimitrov displayed impressive form by breaking his opponent three times in the second set. After the win, he opened up about the challenges of being sidelined for most of the season while recovering from injury.
“I’m still trying to wrap my head around the whole time away from the court. I knew that coming to competition was going to be a difficult task. I just wanted to come out and test myself, give myself a chance. It’s a good night. I’m taking it in,” Dimitrov shared.
He also expressed gratitude for the support from the crowd. “It’s such an amazing crowd and towards the end of the year, you really feel that energy. I feel very appreciated all around. That gives me great gratitude just to be back,” he added.
Mentally, Dimitrov said he was in a positive headspace before the tournament began. Looking ahead, he hopes to perform well at the Paris Masters before shifting focus to a healthy and productive 2026 season.
