Grigor Dimitrov’s actress girlfriend Eiza Gonzalez swells with pride as Bulgarian wins his 1st match back at Paris Masters months after horror injury
After 14 weeks of recovery following a severe injury at the 2025 Wimbledon Championship, Grigor Dimitrov made a triumphant return to the court at the Paris Masters. He faced France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the Round of 64 and secured a straight-sets victory with a score of 7-6(5), 6-1.
Dimitrov’s actress girlfriend, Eiza Gonzalez, watched the match from afar and showed her support on social media. She reshared a clip of Dimitrov’s court entry, capturing the warm applause from the crowd, along with firecracker emojis to celebrate his comeback. She also shared a highlight of Dimitrov outwitting his opponent in the second set, calling him a “Warrior” on her Instagram stories.
### The Injury and Recovery
Back in July, Dimitrov suffered a pectoral muscle tear during his Round of 16 match against Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon. At the time, Dimitrov was leading by two sets and was tied in the third before the injury forced him to retire. Interestingly, Sinner went on to win the Wimbledon title by defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the final.
Ahead of his Paris Masters return, Dimitrov reflected on the time away from professional tennis. “It was the first time in almost twenty years that I could really be at home for the summer, so I took advantage of these moments. I wasn’t really following what was happening on the tour, I wasn’t trying to stay connected,” he shared.
### Back on Court and Looking Forward
In his comeback match, Dimitrov showcased his skills by breaking his opponent three times in the second set. After the match, he opened up about the challenges of being sidelined during the second half of the season and the mental adjustment required.
“I’m still trying to wrap my head around the whole time away from the court. I knew that coming to competition was going to be a difficult task. I just wanted to come out and test myself, give myself a chance. It’s a good night. I’m taking it in,” Dimitrov said.
He also praised the supporters, adding, “It’s such an amazing crowd, and towards the end of the year, you really feel that energy. I feel very appreciated all around. That gives me great gratitude just to be back.”
Mentally, Dimitrov reported being in a good headspace ahead of the tournament, expressing hope to perform well in Paris before focusing on a healthy 2026 season.
