GMB’s Ed Balls told to ‘stop’ over harsh interview with Traitors star Harry Clark
Good Morning Britain’s Ed Balls was told to ‘stop’ over his harsh interview with Harry Clark on Wednesday morning when he gave the Traitors star a grilling over morals.
The former politician was hosting the ITV breakfast show alongside Susanna Reid when The Traitors winner was invited on to talk about his new Christian book, *Staying Faithful*. However, Harry Clark was instantly subjected to a tough line of questioning.
Harry, 24, shot to fame when he won the BBC competition after infamously lying to Mollie Pearce and making her believe he was a Faithful when he was, in fact, a Traitor. This meant he walked away with the £90,000 prize.
The TV star is also known for his religious beliefs, and Ed and Susanna set about questioning how he managed to “play the game” at the expense of his own morals.
Harry, who is a practicing Catholic, said:
“I played the game, it involved lying, kind of. It wasn’t awkward at all. People do this in 2025 where there’s always got to be a problem with something, or make something deep. The Traitors was never that deep.”
Susanna fired back: “Religion is deep, Harry!”
But he responded:
“You can make it as deep as you want it. There’s many reasons why I wrote [this book], to start with, to give back to my loved ones. My mum, my dad, my siblings. And all the people who watched The Traitors.
“It’s a memoir and it’s funny, I’m only 24 and I’ve done quite a bit for a 24-year-old. It’s also a self-help book. I’ve been through dark times in the army and all of The Traitors stuff and what followed, but what stayed consistent was my faith.”
Not convinced, Ed brought up Susanna’s question about lying again. He said:
“Mollie was so close to you, she totally relied on you, trusted you. There’s a lot of money at stake. And you had to do things that, as a Christian, are morally challenging. Did you worry about that?”
Harry said:
“No, if you read this book, it was a game, it was a game, you realise.”
Ed hit back:
“Did Mollie think it was a game in those last 24 hours?”
The former Pilgrimage star simply responded:
“You’ll have to ask her!”
Undeterred, Ed said:
“I heard she was quite upset! She trusted you and then you did her in. And I just wondered if she wasn’t quite upset about it.”
Harry insisted they had spoken afterwards and explained that he was there for the benefit of his family. He added:
“To win that money for them has changed, not just my life, but all of [our lives].”
However, the line of questioning did not go unnoticed by viewers at home. One wrote on social media:
“#GMB It’s a game Ed, calm down! Harry played it and played it brilliantly. And I can’t wait for tonight.”
A second said:
“Stop trying to catch the boy out Ed. It’s a TV show.”
And a third added:
“More fool Mollie, it was just a game!”

Just weeks ago, the engineer-turned-reality star joined BBC Radio 2’s long-running *Pause For Thought* segment, where he opened up about his religious beliefs.
Joining Scott Mills live on air, he said:
“I know that some of your listeners will know me from winning The Traitors, and I want to talk more about that next week but for now, for this *Pause For Thought*, I thought I’d tell you more about what makes me tick. So, I’m Harry, I’m 24, and I come from a massive family.
“There’s five of us children, I’ve got two brothers, two sisters and a mum and dad. Despite achieving something, I’m still just a normal kid from Slough who lives with his parents and sisters in a council house. Both of my brothers have now moved out.
“Luckily, thanks to my mum, religion has always been a big part of my life and has helped me all the way through. Faith has been, and it means a lot to me always, and it’s amazing to be a part of something bigger that is outside of myself.
“As soon as I could, I decided I was off to North Yorkshire at the age of 16 to become an avionics technician, which is technically a helicopter engineer, which is easier to understand but it’s still just as crazy as it sounds. I’d never seen a helicopter before I left Slough, so becoming a helicopter engineer is the coolest thing ever.”
