Garry Chapman, the son of reality TV star Duane “Dog” Chapman, has been fired from the Priceville, Alabama Police Department following his involvement in a car chase that tragically ended with the death of a 17-year-old boy, RadarOnline.com can report.
Chapman was reportedly pursuing a man suspected of driving under the influence (DUI) when the suspect’s vehicle collided with another car carrying four innocent teenagers. The impact resulted in a fatal crash, with one teen losing his life.
Last month, Chapman was placed on administrative leave while the police department conducted an investigation into his actions. On Wednesday, Priceville Mayor Sam Heflin confirmed to Radar that Chapman’s termination would be permanent. However, due to the complexity of the case, the mayor declined to disclose the specific reasons behind the decision.
> “For reasons important to the protection of employee due process and fairness, it is the policy of the City of Priceville not to comment on pending personnel matters,” Heflin said in a statement. “I can say, however, that the City and its police department are committed to serving the citizens of the City of Priceville by enforcing the law proactively and fairly, but in a manner that is consistent with applicable law and the Department’s Policies and Procedures.”
### Garry Chapman to Appeal Termination
Chapman is reportedly appealing the termination and is scheduled to have a hearing on October 13, following the city council meeting. His attorney, Scott Morro, spoke to CBS News 19 in Huntsville, expressing confidence in his client.
> “Garry Chapman is an excellent police officer who has made several cases for the City of Priceville, and he is their top police officer even though he has only been there a short period of time,” Morro stated.
Chapman joined the Priceville Police Department in 2023 and is the youngest son of Duane Chapman, widely known as Dog The Bounty Hunter.
In an interview with Huntsville’s Fox54, Morro elaborated:
> “The Supreme Court allows pursuit as long as you’re assessing danger throughout the pursuit. And it’s unfortunate that it turned out the way it did. But Garry followed the law, and he followed the policy. We hope that the City Council, after the hearing, will see it our way and recognize that Chapman is an asset to their city and not a detriment. And so hopefully he’ll be reinstated.”
### The Tragic Incident
Radar previously reported that Chapman was pursuing a man later identified as Archie Hale into neighboring Hartselle. During the pursuit, Hale’s car struck another vehicle carrying six teenagers before crashing into a ditch.
Seventeen-year-old Tristan Hollis was killed in the crash, while three others were hospitalized in critical condition. Hale and a passenger in his vehicle also required hospitalization.
Since the tragic incident, families of the teens involved have launched individual GoFundMe campaigns to raise funds for funeral expenses and medical treatment.

One of the GoFundMe pages shared the emotional impact the crash has had on the teens involved:
