The highlight from Castle took place in the first 30 seconds of the game. San Antonio pushed the pace on a fastbreak as Devin Vassell delivered an alley-oop pass to Castle. The young guard leapt high in the air and finished the play with an impressive slam dunk. Going into the halftime break, the Spurs held a narrow 66-63 lead over the Pacers. Both teams battled back and forth throughout the first half. San Antonio started hot, taking a 39-28 lead after the first quarter. However, Indiana responded strongly by winning the second quarter 35-27, cutting the Spurs’ lead down to just three points at halftime.
Three Spurs players scored in double digits in the first half, including Wembanyama and Castle. Wembanyama contributed 11 points, eight rebounds, two blocks, one assist, and one steal. He shot an efficient 4-of-6 from the field, including 1-of-1 from three-point range, and went a perfect 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.
Castle led the team with 13 points and five assists, while Luke Kornet added 10 points and four rebounds. Devin Vassell also chipped in nine points and four assists.
Following the preseason finale, the Spurs will turn their attention to the regular season. They will open their campaign on the road against the Dallas Mavericks on October 22 at 9:30 p.m. ET. Fans will be eager to see how Wembanyama and Castle continue to develop as the season gets underway.
