Global pop sensation Ed Sheeran has confirmed his third collaboration with an Indian artist, Punjabi singer-songwriter Karan Aujla. The announcement came during an interview with Nikita Kanda on BBC Asian Network on Wednesday, September 17.
This new track, which blends English and Punjabi, was filmed in New York and is slated for release in October. This collaboration follows Sheeran’s previous projects with renowned Indian artists Arijit Singh and Diljit Dosanjh.
### Musical Exploration: A “Little Bit of That” Punjabi Flavor
Reflecting on his journey into Punjabi music, Sheeran shared, “The first time I sang in Punjabi was doing *Lover*” — referring to Diljit Dosanjh’s song. He added, “And I’ve just done a tune with Karan Aujla as well, where we’ve done like a little bit of that.”
The British singer-songwriter praised the upcoming song with Aujla as an exciting continuation of his exploration into Punjabi musical heritage.
### Embracing the Punjabi Language
Sheeran expressed his admiration for Punjabi, calling it a “melodic language” and “poetic.” He recounted the experience of learning Punjabi alongside Aujla, who encouraged him to perfect his pronunciation.
“Like with Karan, sitting with him and him being like, ‘No, you say it like this.’ And I said, ‘Be really really brutal with me,’” Sheeran revealed, highlighting his dedication to authenticity in the collaboration.
### The Growing Global Impact of Punjabi Music
Karan Aujla, known for his lyrical depth and recent project *P-Pop Culture*, continues to elevate Punjabi music on the global stage. His collaboration with Sheeran underscores the expanding international influence of the genre.
Expressing his excitement, Sheeran said, “I’m just really excited now” about the upcoming track.
Meanwhile, Aujla’s rising prominence is evident — he was recently featured as the musical guest on *Late Night with Jimmy Fallon*, further cementing his global presence.
Stay tuned for the October release of this highly anticipated musical collaboration between two international stars.
