**‘Dependence Mustn’t Turn Into Compulsion’: RSS Chief Reacts to US Tariffs**

At the Vijayadashami event in Nagpur, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat addressed the recent tariff policies imposed by the United States on Indian goods. He stated that the US’s move was “done keeping in mind the interest of their own,” highlighting the reality of global interdependence but warning that it should never transform into compulsion.
Bhagwat emphasized the need for India to strive towards swadeshi and self-reliance, insisting there is no alternative. “Our harmony must be our own,” he asserted, underlining the importance of national unity and economic independence.
### Regional Stability: Concerns Over Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh
The RSS chief also expressed concern about the recent unrest in neighboring countries such as Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. He cautioned that violent uprisings could invite foreign interference, destabilizing the region.
“Violent uprisings only lead to anarchy,” Bhagwat said, warning that forces intent on creating disturbances in Bharat (India) are active both inside and outside the country. He noted that while democratic movements can bring about change, violent uprisings cannot, citing historical examples such as France’s revolution and the transformation of socialist countries into capitalist states.
### National Harmony: Response to Attack in Pahalgam
Addressing India’s diverse social fabric, Bhagwat stressed the importance of embracing differences within the framework of the law. He condemned attempts to provoke communities and called for fair administration.
“The administration must act fairly, but the youth must also stay alert and intervene if needed,” he urged. “The grammar of anarchy needs to be stopped.” He further condemned divisive mindsets, declaring that the “us” versus “them” mentality is “not acceptable.”
### Economic Focus: Promoting ‘Make in India’
Bhagwat’s remarks align closely with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeals to boost the swadeshi movement and encourage self-sufficiency. Modi has repeatedly urged Indians to minimize dependence on foreign-made goods.
“Often, we don’t even know if the comb in our pocket is made in India or abroad,” the Prime Minister said in one of his speeches. “We should buy products that are Made in India, crafted through the hard work of our country’s youth—products that carry the sweat of our sons and daughters.”
As India navigates external economic pressures and regional challenges, leaders like Bhagwat and Modi emphasize the importance of self-reliance, national harmony, and vigilance to safeguard the country’s interests and integrity.
