Davis Mills Delivers Fitting Message After Texans Take Down Titans
Davis Mills remains as confident as ever following the Houston Texans’ Week 11 victory over the Tennessee Titans. The quarterback, initially expected to be a backup, has been pressed into starting duties for the second consecutive game due to C.J. Stroud remaining in concussion protocol.
Judging by Mills’ recent comments, he appears poised to be under center once again when the Texans face the Buffalo Bills on “Thursday Night Football” in Week 12.
### Davis Mills Drops Blunt Truth After Texans’ Win
Over six quarters, Mills has completed 70 of 116 passes (a 60.3% completion rate) for 703 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception. He reached his best form on Sunday, posting a 274-yard, 1-touchdown, 0-interception line with a 63.4% completion rate against the Titans.
When asked if last week’s comeback win against the Jacksonville Jaguars added to his confidence, Mills offered a grounded perspective. “I don’t think it’s any different than I’m kind of treating the whole game. I’ve always been confident. I know what I’m capable of, and it’s just a situation in the game that you have to deal with. Knowing, understanding football, and what needs to be done when you’re tied up late in the fourth quarter, you need to go down and get points,” Mills said on November 16.
He added, “So, I was trying to do my best to keep the ball on our side and in our hands, and we were able to go down and make plays.”
For Mills, Sunday’s game was just another day at the office.
### Davis ‘Money’ Mills Delivers Again
In Week 10, Mills led the Texans to 26 fourth-quarter points to topple the Jaguars, avenging an earlier loss in Week 1. Despite the momentum, Mills emphasized his approach comes from a lifetime of experience rather than any single game.
Drafted in the third round by the Texans in 2021, Mills was the team’s starter before the franchise selected C.J. Stroud with the No. 2 overall pick in 2023. Mills has consistently maintained the “next play” mentality, a mindset Head Coach DeMeco Ryans champions.
“I don’t think so. I think I’ve always played with that confidence. Like I said, I don’t think the moment, really, is ever too big. I’ve always kind of been able to settle in, be calm, and focus on what my job is. And when you have guys around you who are making plays and you can lean on and trust in the huddle, it makes it a lot easier,” Mills explained.
He continued, “I don’t know if there’s too much of a process. A lot of it is my natural demeanor. I’ve never been very emotional as a person. Never really got too upset if something bad happens.”
“That’s kind of just how I’ve always been on the field and off the field. You can’t really control the uncontrollables. You just have to focus on what’s next and what you can do to change the outcome of the game in the best way possible.”
Mills’ steady composure and leadership have earned him the respect of his teammates. Defensive end Will Anderson acknowledged the “Money Mills” nickname, saying, “He’s getting the job done,” as reported by the Houston Chronicle’s Jonathan M. Alexander.
### Davis Mills Really ‘Chills’
Another nickname, “Davis Chills,” comes from his calm demeanor—so much so that his wife reportedly gets upset with him for not showing enough emotion.
When asked if he enjoys playing in “high-pressure moments,” Mills offered insight into his mindset. “Yeah, they’re fun. I think everything kind of slows down. The field and the space open up. When you can settle in there, and you know exactly what your process is, understand the play call, especially late in the game, it’s a big advantage. I’ve seen the defense the whole game at this point,” Mills said.
“I know most of their calls and disguises that they’ve already shown. You can start using that knowledge to anticipate and play even faster.”
### Looking Ahead
Despite the recent win, Mills is not one to dwell on past success. With a quick turnaround against the Bills on a short week, the quarterback is already focused on the next challenge.
“It’s quick,” Mills said when asked how long he would let himself savor the victory. “It’s really just today. Watch the film on the plane, get good rest, recover, and then we’re starting tomorrow on the Bills.”
With his calm confidence and proven ability to perform under pressure, Davis Mills continues to be an integral part of the Texans’ offense as they navigate the rest of the season.
