Cuylle scores in OT as Rangers beat Kraken 3-2
SEATTLE (AP) — Will Cuylle scored at 2:42 of overtime to give the New York Rangers a 3-2 victory over the Seattle Kraken on Saturday night.
Vladislav Gavrikov and Noah Laba each scored in the opening period for New York, while Igor Shesterkin finished with 11 saves. Cuylle also recorded an assist, marking his fourth straight game with a point.
For Seattle, Chandler Stephenson and Bradon Montour found the back of the net. The Kraken suffered their second consecutive overtime loss and took just a franchise-record low 13 shots on goal, surpassing their previous low of 17. Joey Daccord made 24 saves in the loss.
In the extra period, Cuylle scored from the right circle on a snap shot, securing the Rangers their third consecutive win to close out the road trip.
Gavrikov opened the scoring at 10:16 of the first period with a wrist shot above the left circle. This goal marked the defenseman’s first with the Rangers since signing a seven-year, $49 million contract on July 1.
Seattle answered back when Stephenson netted a power-play goal on a wrist shot from the left circle with 7:11 remaining in the first period. Just 1:01 later, New York regained the lead as Laba scored off a rebound.
In the second period, Montour tied the game at 2-2 with a one-timer from the top right circle at 6:59. It was Montour’s third goal in his last two games.
New York appeared to score at the end of a power play in the second period; however, the goal was overturned after the puck slipped into the net during a scrum near the crease, in which Daccord was pushed into the net.
Next up, the Rangers will host Carolina on Tuesday night, while the Kraken will host Chicago, also on Tuesday.
