College Football Fans Believe Longhorns QB Arch Manning is Overrated
All off-season long, there was considerable chatter about Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning being a Heisman Trophy frontrunner and a potential number one pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. However, through the first five weeks of the 2025 season, Manning has emerged as the weak link of the Longhorns football team.
Texas currently holds a 3-2 record and is in danger of missing the playoffs after making appearances in the last two seasons. Their recent road loss to the Florida Gators, 29-21, was particularly damaging. Prior to the game, Texas was ranked ninth in the nation, but they are now unranked.
Manning and the offense have struggled to find rhythm all season long. Many college football fans believe he is overrated and that he has not lived up to the high expectations set for him. So far, Manning has completed 60.0% of his passes, totaling 1,151 yards, 11 touchdowns, and five interceptions. On the ground, he has rushed for 160 yards on 43 carries and scored five touchdowns, averaging 3.7 yards per carry.
Through these first five games, Manning has yet to show the performance level expected of a Heisman Trophy candidate or a 2026 first-round NFL draft pick. His continued struggles, highlighted by another disappointing showing against the Gators, have only fueled criticism among fans. Some never understood the initial hype surrounding him.
Looking ahead, there are many unanswered questions. If the Longhorns miss the playoffs and Manning’s struggles persist, will he return for the 2026 season? Or will he declare for the NFL Draft regardless, or perhaps enter the transfer portal?
Despite the ups and downs, Manning is not currently in danger of losing his starting job unless he suffers an injury before the season’s end. This season has been a disappointing one for head coach Steve Sarkisian and the entire Texas program, as fans hope for better results moving forward.
Many college football followers note that Manning does not yet resemble the success of his famous uncles, Eli and Peyton Manning. Only time will tell if he can live up to the family legacy.
