“CJ Stroud era coming to an end”: NFL fans react as Texans QB gets replaced by Davis Mills after taking brutal hit to his head
Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud exited Sunday’s matchup against the Denver Broncos in the second quarter after a violent collision sent him to the turf.
On a third-and-8 scramble, Stroud tried to slide to safety, but Denver cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine closed in fast, clipping him as he went down. The quarterback’s head snapped back on impact. Trainers rushed to his aid as officials initially threw a flag for contact on a sliding quarterback, only to retract it after review.
Stroud eventually got up, gave a thumbs-up to the crowd, and went to the locker room for evaluation. The team later announced that he was being checked for a concussion and was uncertain to return.
Stroud completed 6 of 10 passes for 79 yards and also gained 12 rushing yards on two carries before leaving the game.
### Fans React as Davis Mills Enters the Game
With Stroud sidelined, backup quarterback Davis Mills entered the huddle. Fans quickly shared their reactions online.
“CJ Stroud era coming to an end,” one fan wrote.
“Davis Mills better throw that DAMN BALL to Nico Collins!” another fan urged.
“That’s a tough break for the Texans and Stroud. Hoping for the best news and a quick recovery for CJ. Now it’s a huge task for Davis Mills to step in mid-game and keep the offense rolling!” commented another supporter.
More fans expressed their thoughts:
– “Mills replacing Stroud mid-game, that’s an instant cold start for the offense. Wild to see that pivot.”
– “Tough break for the Texans. Big moment now for Davis Mills to step up and keep the offense rolling.”
– “General Mills time,” joked another fan.
### The Texans’ Outlook with Mills at the Helm
The hit occurred near Houston’s end of the field, where Stroud picked up a modest gain before being stopped short of a first down.
Houston entered Week 9 with a 3-4 record, hoping to climb back to .500 and stay in the playoff mix ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline. A win would have strengthened Texans general manager Nick Caserio’s leverage to remain aggressive in the market.
The Texans had built momentum following a 26-15 victory over San Francisco in Week 8, highlighted by CJ Stroud’s first 300-yard passing performance of the season.
Davis Mills returned to action as Stroud’s backup after starting 26 games early in his career. Known as one of the league’s more reliable second-string quarterbacks, Mills has thrown for just over 400 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions over the past two seasons.
As Houston fights for a playoff spot, all eyes will be on Mills to see if he can maintain the offense’s rhythm and produce under pressure.
