City of Titans spends Q3 on the ‘monotonous’ but necessary work of game engine updates
“How was your work day, sweetie?” asks the team behind the still-developing superhero MMORPG, City of Titans.
In their latest quarterly progress report, Missing Worlds Media responds with a candid update: “Monotonous, but good.” While that might sound a bit disheartening, it’s at least reassuring to know that progress is being made—even if much of the work isn’t exactly glamorous.
The majority of the development effort has been focused on assembling a functional Unreal Engine 5.6 build. This process has involved untangling numerous bugs and resolving conflicts with map objects. Although technically straightforward, these tasks are extremely time-consuming, the studio explains.
Despite the repetitive nature of this work, the team remains committed to pushing through with the goal of delivering a new, playable build as soon as possible.
While the “Gordian Knot” of Unreal Engine 5.6 integration has consumed most of the third quarter, the developers have also made strides in polishing backend systems. This includes work on compelling combat mechanics and refining enemy AI. Unfortunately, much of this cannot be playtested until the new build update is complete, so the necessary tedious work continues for the time being.
Fans eagerly await the next playable iteration, hopeful that these behind-the-scenes efforts will soon translate into exciting new gameplay experiences.
