Candace Owens officially banned from Australia as judges rule her visa “emphatically rejected”
Right-wing influencer and conspiracy theorist Candace Owens has been denied entry into Australia over concerns she would “stir up or encourage dissension or strife” in the country.
Owens has been embroiled in a legal battle with the Australian government since Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke rejected her visa application in November 2024, when she applied to go on a speaking tour. The country’s highest court recently ruled her application should be “emphatically rejected” due to her “extremist and inflammatory comments towards Muslim, Black, Jewish and LGBTQIA+ communities which generate controversy and hatred.”
Australia’s constitution does not explicitly grant the right to free speech, but Owens argued that her implied freedom of political communication was violated. The court disagreed. “The implied freedom is not a ‘personal right,’ is not unlimited and is not absolute,” the judges wrote, determining Owens failed the “character test” under Australia’s migration act.
Owens has a long history of anti-LGBTQ+ invective. She has accused *So You Think You Can Dance* judge JoJo Siwa of pretending to be gay for clicks, said she’d beat her own grandchild if they came out as trans, and attacked Dwyane Wade’s trans daughter, out soccer legend Megan Rapinoe, and Lil Nas X. She has also falsely associated trans people with shootings in Memphis and Texas.
The commentator even became too toxic for the far-right site The Daily Wire, which fired her last year over her overt antisemitism. Owens once pushed a wild conspiracy theory that a cabal of Satanists is masquerading as Jews and conspiring to promote incest and child sexual abuse in an effort to create a generation of psychopathic world leaders.
She has also been on a rampage to convince the world that French First Lady Brigitte Macron is actually a trans woman. Macron has sued Owens for defamation, while Owens has denied many of the claims in the first lady’s suit, including that she has promoted the antisemitic blood libel myth that Jewish people drink the blood of Christian children—calling it “the most absurd lie that you could possibly put in a lawsuit.”
“I said that Jews are going around drinking the blood of Christian children? Are you out of your mind?” Owens stated. Yet, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has confirmed Owens promoted this myth.
The ADL’s profile on Owens notes that she made the claim while discussing Leo Frank, a Jewish man who was lynched in 1913 after being falsely accused of murder. Owens reportedly said Frank saw incest and pedophilia “as the sacramental rites,” and that acts normally termed “blood libel” were actually happening.
Last year, Owens also liked a post on X in which someone wrote to a rabbi, “Are you drunk on Christian blood again?”
Additionally, Owens addressed the lawsuit’s mention that she sold t-shirts featuring a fake *Time* Magazine “Man of the Year” cover with a photo of Macron. Owens laughed off the claim and said she would be restocking the shirt and selling one thousand more.
“We’re not gonna shut up,” she declared. “You’re not going to bully us. Frankly, I find this all to be irresistible and delicious.”
