‘Black Phone 2’ buzzed back into No. 1 spot in theaters on Halloween
It keeps ringing. The supernatural horror flick *Black Phone 2* has moved back to the No. 1 spot on Halloween, raking in a spook-tacular $2.39 million, according to The Numbers.
In the film, which debuted two weeks ago at number one but slipped to third last Friday, Ethan Hawke reprises his role as the serial killer, “The Grabber.” Hawke told USA Today, “Last Halloween, there were probably 15 people that came to our house trick-or-treating dressed as the Grabber.”
Taking second place on its opening day was *Bugonia*, with sales of $1.81 million. This sci-fi black comedy centers around a pair of conspiracy theorists who kidnap a CEO, played by Emma Stone, because they believe she’s an alien on a mission to destroy the planet.
*The Post* called the movie “a zany, comic, icky, smelly thriller about the deadly cocktail of loneliness and web browsing,” and praised its star, Stone, as “predictably fantastic.” Stone, who shaved her head for the role, shared with People how she felt that day on set: “It was a year and a half I knew that I was going to be shaving my head, and then the day of, I just started kind of panicking about that,” she explained.
In third place was *Back to the Future*, which returned to theaters for its 40th anniversary and earned $1.56 million. Its star, Michael J. Fox, told Empire why the movie still resonates today: “We live in a bully culture right now. We have bullies everywhere. In this movie, Biff is a bully. Time is a bully. For me personally, Parkinson’s is a bully.”
Fox, whose memoir *Future Boy* was released last month, added, “And it’s all about how you stand up to them and the resolve that you take into the fight with them. I think a lot of people are responding to the movie because it strikes chords they wouldn’t otherwise recognize.”
*Chainsaw Man The Movie: Reze Arc*, which opened in first place last Friday, dropped to fourth with $1.3 million in revenue.
Rounding out the top five was the romantic drama *Regretting You*, which fell three spots to fifth place, earning $1.21 million.
