**BJP, JDS Slam Congress Over Deputy CM Shivakumar’s Survey Response**

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has sparked criticism from opposition parties after refusing to answer certain questions in the ongoing socio-economic and educational survey conducted by the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes.
The survey, which began on September 22 and is set to conclude on October 7, recently involved enumerators visiting Shivakumar’s residence in Bengaluru’s Sadashivnagar for data collection.
### Shivakumar Frustrated with Survey Process
The Deputy CM appeared visibly frustrated by the lengthy survey process and the personal nature of some questions. He advised officials to “keep it simple” and concentrate on essential information such as caste, educational qualifications, and government benefits received by households.
Shivakumar also questioned the relevance of certain questions related to cattle rearing and gold possession, asking if he was expected to run a poultry business. His reaction highlighted concerns over the survey’s design and the kind of information being sought.
### Opposition Parties Criticize Congress Government
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (Secular) (JDS) have slammed the Congress government, labeling the survey as a “confused and poorly planned” exercise.
State BJP chief BY Vijayendra said Shivakumar’s reaction reflects the confusion surrounding the survey. He accused the government of rushing the process without adequate preparation and criticized the timing, especially in light of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement to include caste enumeration in the upcoming national census.
### JDS Joins BJP in Condemning Survey
The Janata Dal (Secular) also joined the BJP in their criticism, pointing out that Shivakumar himself had refused to answer several questions posed by the enumerators.
The party alleged that the Deputy CM rejected the caste census survey model and the questionnaire prepared by “Rahul Gandhi and team” without providing proper information, further fueling concerns about the survey’s legitimacy and execution.
As the survey continues until October 7, this political backlash underscores the tensions surrounding caste-based data collection and its broader implications in Karnataka.
