Bihar Assembly Elections 2025: CM Nitish Kumar & Union Minister Chirag Paswan Hold Separate Meetings Amid Seat-Sharing Talks
Patna: As the assembly election process in Bihar is set to formally begin with the issuance of the notification for the first phase on Friday, key political leaders are actively engaged in crucial discussions over seat-sharing arrangements.
Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) president Nitish Kumar convened a meeting of senior JD(U) leaders at his official residence, 1 Anne Marg, to finalize the list of candidates for the upcoming polls. The meeting underscores the party’s focus on securing vital constituencies and strengthening its electoral strategy.
At the same time, Union Minister and LJP (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan called an emergency meeting of his party’s core team at the state office to deliberate on seat distribution and election preparedness. Although Chirag Paswan did not attend the meeting as he had left for New Delhi, LJP (RV) MP from Jamui, Arun Bharti, represented the party in seat-sharing discussions.
Sources reveal a significant gap between demands and offers as Chirag Paswan reportedly requested 36 seats for his party, while the BJP is willing to allocate only 22. Before departing for New Delhi, Chirag emphasized that the party’s election strategies would be thoroughly discussed during the meeting, with a final decision expected after the central parliamentary board convenes.
Meanwhile, the JD(U) has taken a firm stand on retaining several constituencies currently held by its sitting MLAs, asserting control over key regions. On the other hand, Chirag Paswan’s LJP is eyeing constituencies such as Manhar, Matihani, and Chakai, which are presently represented by JD(U) legislators, highlighting the competitive dynamics within the alliance.
In the midst of seat-sharing negotiations, HAM leader B.K. Singh declared his intent to file the nomination from the Morwa assembly constituency in Samastipur on October 13. Singh claims to have the backing of HAM’s national president, Santosh Manjhi. Singh also leveled serious allegations against former JD(U) leader Vidyasagar Singh Nishad, accusing him of acquiring disproportionate assets.
As parties finalize their strategies and candidates, Bihar’s political landscape is gearing up for a fiercely contested election ahead.
