Austin Cindric's NASCAR playoff hopes dashed after crashing at Charlotte Roval playoff race
Austin Cindric was eliminated from the NASCAR playoffs after a wreck at the Charlotte Roval. The incident occurred when Carson Hocevar’s car hit Cindric’s from behind, causing a broken rear toe link on Cindric’s vehicle.
Cindric needed a victory in the race to advance to the next round of the playoffs. However, his hopes were dashed during the NASCAR Charlotte Roval race on October 5. Early in Stage 2 of the Bank of America 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Hocevar made contact with Cindric’s No. 2 Team Penske Ford Mustang from the rear. The collision caused both drivers to spin out, and the damage to Cindric’s car forced him to head to the garage after driving back to pit road.
Coming into the race, Cindric was ranked 12th in the playoff point standings, 48 points below the cutoff line to advance. This meant he needed a win in this race to keep his playoff hopes alive. His only victory in 2025 came earlier in April at Talladega. During the playoffs, his best finish was 12th place in the first race at Darlington. Unfortunately, he was coming off a 30th-place finish at Kansas, which caused him to fall back by 29 points in the standings.
The first lap at the Charlotte Roval was chaotic. Hocevar, who is not in the playoffs, also took out Kyle Busch by hitting him from the inside rear. This crash ended Busch’s day early in the race.
The wreck involving Hocevar and Cindric ultimately ended Cindric’s advancement in the playoffs, marking a disappointing turn in his 2025 campaign.
