Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a CID inquiry into the recent death of popular singer Zubeen Garg. The singer, who was in Singapore to perform at the North East India Festival, tragically died on Friday while swimming in the sea without a life jacket.
Multiple FIRs have been registered against the festival organizer, Shyamkanu Mahanta, and Garg’s manager, Siddhartha Sharma. The investigation will focus on interrogating those who were with Garg in his final moments.
**CID Investigation Initiated**
Chief Minister Sarma took to X on Saturday to share updates, stating: “Multiple FIRs have been filed against Shri Syamkanu Mahanta and Shri Siddharth Sarma in connection with the unfortunate and untimely demise of our beloved Zubeen Garg. I have directed the @DGPAssamPolice to transfer all the FIRs to the CID and to register a consolidated case for a thorough investigation.”
**Inquiry to Examine Circumstances Surrounding Death**
Sarma also revealed that the inquiry will look into reports suggesting that Garg (52) was taken to a party the night before his death. “We are also trying to ascertain its veracity,” he said. Assam Police will probe the case closely, and Mahanta, Sharma, along with others present with the singer during his last moments, will be interrogated.
**International Investigation Underway**
Singaporean authorities have launched their own investigation into Garg’s death since the incident occurred outside India. Sarma explained, “As the place of occurrence is not India, we will get the criminal part, if any, from that country and if he was taken from Assam with a wrong intent, we will get this aspect from the state.”
He assured that the Assam government would ensure a thorough inquiry into all aspects related to Garg’s death.
**Commitment to Transparency**
Addressing the public, Sarma promised full transparency throughout the investigation. “The state government will impartially ascertain all aspects related to his death, and all arrangements will be made if anyone wants to give any information or be a witness,” he said.
He emphasized the importance of keeping the people of Assam fully informed and pledged that no details surrounding the beloved singer’s death would be left undisclosed.
