The US government has reportedly made another major deal with a leading tech company, this time partnering with AMD. The US Department of Energy and AMD have agreed to a $1 billion contract that will see AMD build two advanced supercomputers for the federal department over the next few years.
According to a report by Reuters, which cited a statement from AMD and CEO Dr. Lisa Su, the first of the two supercomputers is expected to be ready by 2029. This powerful machine will assist the US government in a variety of critical endeavors, including the management of the US nuclear arsenal and driving breakthroughs in medical science related to cancer.
Energy Secretary Chris Wright emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating that the partnership with AMD will accelerate technological growth in the United States once the project is completed. The deal highlights the government’s commitment to advancing high-performance computing capabilities to tackle some of the nation’s most pressing challenges.
