Akshay Kumar-Saif Ali Khan turn Churchgate into ACTION zone for Haiwaan: 30-40 Cars, 100 Junior Artistes, 1 MASSIVE Chase! Priyadarshan says, “Akshay is known to sleep early, yet he shot for 5 nights!”
At one point, several films were shot on the streets of Mumbai, but this trend has now become rare. However, Akshay Kumar’s upcoming film, *Haiwaan*, stands out as a notable exception. The actor, along with co-star Saif Ali Khan, shot for nearly five days outside Churchgate railway station and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, both iconic locations in South Mumbai.
### Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan Turn Churchgate into an Action Zone for *Haiwaan*
According to an article in Mid-Day, Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan filmed a grand action sequence near Churchgate railway station. The sequence was a cat-and-mouse chase involving 30-40 cars and 100 junior artistes. Filming at this location continued for five nights and was meticulously choreographed by action director Stunt Silva.
Priyadarshan, the director, shared some insights, saying, “Both Saif and Akshay knew how the sequence had to be shot and they cooperated, though Akshay is known to sleep early.” He added, “Akshay shot for five nights to get the perfect takes!”
### Current Status of the Shoot
Akshay Kumar has wrapped up his portions for *Haiwaan* and has since left for Dubai to begin shooting for *Welcome To The Jungle*. Priyadarshan revealed that besides shooting in South Mumbai, the team also filmed scenes in Bandra Kurla Complex. He mentioned that he still has nine days of work remaining with Saif Ali Khan.
Additionally, actress Shriya Pilgaonkar recently posted a photo on Instagram, posing with Priyadarshan. She informed her followers that she too has completed her shoot for *Haiwaan*, calling it “an absolute privilege to work with this stellar team led by Priyadarshan sir.”
### From *Holiday* to *Haiwaan* — Akshay Kumar’s Street Shoots in Mumbai
The last time Akshay Kumar shot extensively on Mumbai streets was for *Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty* (2014). On its tenth anniversary, producer Vipul Shah spoke to Bollywood Hungama about the challenges of shooting on busy city roads.
He explained, “Mr. A R Murugadoss planned it meticulously. We had approximately sixteen hidden cameras and marked the entire path. We knew we could film only one shot at a time because the moment people spotted Akshay at a Bandra signal, chaos would ensue. Thousands would gather instantly to catch a glimpse of him, making it impossible to shoot as Akshay’s character is one of many in the crowd.”
Vipul Shah continued, “We quickly filmed the shot, then Akshay would get into his car and speed away. We utilized the parking lot of Gaiety-Galaxy, where Akshay waited for his next take. He knew precisely where to walk and what to do. We made sure the shot was done in one take, or else we would have to wait 2-3 hours for another chance. Thankfully, we got all takes on the first try.”
