
Maharashtra Health Minister Prakash Abitkar Orders Strict Food Quality, Hygiene Checks In All Government Hospitals
**Mumbai: Maharashtra Government Hospitals to Ensure Nutritious Food and Strict Cleanliness Standards**
Public Health and Family Welfare Minister Prakash Abitkar has issued a directive to all government hospitals across Maharashtra to provide patients with nutritious and high-quality food, coupled with strict adherence to cleanliness standards. He firmly warned that any negligence in patient care, food supply, or hygiene would not be tolerated.
**Minister Reviews Hospital Services**
During a recent review of services under the Public Health Department at the Directorate of Health Services in Mumbai, Minister Abitkar assessed various aspects including cleanliness, laundry services, diet supply, medicine stock, and manpower management throughout government health institutions.
Highlighting the importance of patient welfare, the minister emphasized the need for a clean and satisfactory hospital environment, adequate medicine availability, and hygienic surroundings.
Senior officials, including directors and deputy directors, have been instructed to conduct surprise inspections at hospitals and submit factual reports. The minister cautioned that immediate action would be taken against officers found responsible for maintaining unhygienic conditions.
Additionally, contractors responsible for cleaning services have been directed to ensure timely payment to workers as per contract agreements.
**Encouraging Public Preference for Government Hospitals**
Welcoming the Chief Minister’s decision to extend the Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana to primary health centers, Minister Abitkar urged citizens to prefer treatment at government hospitals over private facilities. He stated that public hospitals must enhance their facilities and offer quality healthcare, which will not only benefit patients but also strengthen the financial health of government hospitals by increasing their revenue.
**New Mechanism to Monitor Drug Quality**
Furthermore, Minister Abitkar announced the forthcoming establishment of a dedicated mechanism to monitor the quality of medicines supplied to government hospitals. Any irregularities identified in the drug procurement process will be dealt with strictly to ensure patient safety.
The review meeting was attended by Health Services Commissioner Dr. Kadambari Balkawade, Health Services Director Dr. Nitin Ambadekar, and other senior officials. District health officers, surgeons, and deputy directors from across Maharashtra participated via video conferencing.
