Holy Family-Silver Creek boys basketball is BoCoPreps Game of the Week
Holy Family continues to dominate the early portion of its boys basketball schedule, most recently securing an 18-point victory against Erie on Tuesday.
On Friday night at 7 p.m., the Tigers (9-0, 2-0 Granite Peaks League) will be on the road facing Silver Creek (9-1, 2-1), which saw its perfect 9-0 start come to an end with a 64-52 loss to Horizon earlier this week.
Entering the week, Caleb Schott has been a key contributor for Holy Family, scoring double figures in each of his first eight games this season and averaging 16 points per game. On the other side, Silver Creek’s Luke Schmeeckle leads the league with an impressive 23 points per game. Last month, Schmeeckle set a school record by scoring 45 points in a win over Littleton. He also scored at least 16 points in each of his first nine games this winter.
Last season, Schmeeckle made a notable return at Holy Family, scoring 14 points in his first game back after recovering from an ACL and meniscus tear sustained in the 2024 postseason first round. In that game, Holy Family rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat the Tigers 57-50, snapping a three-game losing streak against the league rival. Schott led all scorers with 21 points.
As of Wednesday evening, Holy Family remains one of only four unbeaten teams in the 4A classification. The Tigers currently hold the third spot in the CHSAA rankings, while the Raptors dropped from No. 3 in 5A to sixth following their loss to Horizon, ranked 18th in 6A. Horizon (9-3, 3-0), last season’s Granite Peaks League champion by a two-game margin, looks poised to repeat its success.
Holy Family kicked off a three-game road stretch late Wednesday at Mullen. After facing Silver Creek on Friday, the Tigers will visit the reigning league champion Hawks next Tuesday.
Ahead of Friday’s boys game, the schools’ girls teams will face off at 5:30 p.m. There, Holy Family aims to secure its eighth consecutive win in the series.
