Olympic bronze medalist Nyjah Huston suffers fractured skull, eye socket in skateboarding accident
Skateboarding star Nyjah Huston rang in 2026 with some serious injuries. The Olympic bronze medalist announced on Instagram on Monday that he sustained a fractured skull and a broken eye socket during a trick gone wrong in Arizona last week.
In several photos he posted, Huston could be seen getting checked out by Tempe medics before heading to the hospital for further evaluation by doctors. In some pictures, blood was visible on the ground beside him after the accident. Other images showed a massive bruise encompassing one of the skater’s eyes.
“A harsh reminder how death defying skating massive rails can be,” Huston wrote in the caption. “Fractured skull, fractured eye socket. Taking it one day at a time. I hope y’all had a better New Year than me. We live to fight another day 🙏🏽”
Many in the skateboarding community quickly flocked to Huston’s Instagram to offer encouragement. Among them was Tony Hawk, who commented, “Heavy. Stay strong; we know you’ll be back.”
Huston, a 31-year-old California native, is one of the most decorated skateboarders in the history of the sport. He owns 13 X Games gold medals as well as seven SLS Super Crown World Championship titles.
He participated in his first Olympics in Tokyo in 2020 but did not medal. In Paris 2024, Huston earned a bronze medal in the men’s street event.
