Fresh off football state title, this two-way standout adds major honor to resume
Fresh off helping Glassboro secure its second-straight NJSIAA/Xfinity Group 1 state championship, Xavier Sabb has received a significant individual honor. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound junior standout was named the 2025-26 Gatorade New Jersey Football Player of the Year on Friday.
Widely considered the top college recruit in New Jersey for the Class of 2027, Sabb finished the year with a team-high 59 catches for 896 yards and 13 touchdowns. In addition to his receiving stats, he rushed for two touchdowns, passed for another, and added scores on kickoff and punt returns. Defensively, Sabb contributed 15 tackles and four interceptions as a defensive back.
Sabb most recently helped lead Glassboro to a 29-14 victory over Cedar Grove in the Group 1 state final at Rutgers. This win extended the Bulldogs’ winning streak to 27 games — the best in the state. Sabb caught five passes for 31 yards in the title game.
As part of Gatorade’s commitment to breaking down barriers in sports, every Player of the Year also receives a grant to donate to a social impact partner. This prestigious award celebrates the nation’s best high school athletes not only for their excellence in sports but also for their academics and community involvement. The announcement recognized Sabb as New Jersey’s best high school football player.
Off the field, Sabb has volunteered locally as a youth football coach and maintains an A-minus average in the classroom.
“Xavier is a tremendous football player and an even better representative of his team,” said Schalick coach Kevin Leamy in the release. “He’s electric with the ball in his hands; a true game-changer who can score from anywhere on the field. But what makes him stand out is how complete his game is. He’s a willing blocker on the perimeter, a physical and instinctive defender, and a leader who clearly elevates everyone around him.”
Previous winners of the Gatorade New Jersey Football Player of the Year award have gone on to achieve great success both on and off the field, adding to the prestige of this honor.
Congratulations to Xavier Sabb on this well-deserved recognition!
