Real Madrid set to activate buy-back clause to bring former player back to club in January: Reports
Real Madrid are reportedly set to activate the buy-back clause for Como star Nico Paz in January 2026. Los Blancos have informed the Argentine about their decision and have been in touch with the Serie A side as well. According to Argentine journalist Gatson Edul, Real Madrid have made their decision on Paz and will be bringing him to the club in the winter window. They have a €9 million clause to sign the 21-year-old, which was at €8 million in the summer when they decided to let him stay at the Italian club for another season. Thanks for the submission! The midfielder was of interest to Tottenham, and the Premier League club made a move to sign him in the summer. Spurs reportedly made a €70 million bid for him, but the player opted against the move and stayed with Cesc Fabregas’ side. Como President Mirwan Suwarso spoke to Sportitalia about Real Madrid’s low clause, saying it was a pre-agreement and that they were powerless to stop it. He said: “I couldn’t care less. It’s a situation we agreed on from the beginning. Real Madrid are allowed to buy him back whenever they want. It’s up to Nico to decide what he wants to do with his future. We are very happy to have him. We like to build a home for him in Como. He chose to stay this season, and we take it day by day. We see how it goes. Does he go back to Madrid next season? Madrid have every right to do that. Will he stay with us? It’s up to him whether he wants it or not.” Nico Paz has been in fine form this season for the Italian side, scoring five goals and assisting four in 12 Serie A matches. He was sold to Como in 2024 for a reported €6 million fee. Nico Paz open to rejoining Real Madrid Nico Paz spoke to the media earlier this season, admitting that he was happy at Como and undecided on his future. I’m focused on Como, which is where I belong. I have no idea what the future holds for me, I don’t even know what I’ll do tomorrow.” The report on Nico Paz comes hours after The Athletic reported that Vinicius Jr will not be renewing his deal at Santiago Bernabeu and has informed the club that he is not satisfied with his role under Xabi Alonso.
