Meghan Trainor Says Her Weight Loss Journey Began When She Was Diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes While Pregnant
Meghan Trainor said that receiving a gestational diabetes diagnosis while pregnant made her “obsessed” with her health and “started” the beginning of her weight loss journey. Trainor, 31, discussed her health in an appearance on KIIS FM on Thursday, Nov. 20, saying, “Everyone’s just being like, like, ‘Why are you thin now?’ Like, ‘You were ‘All About That Bass’ girl.’ I was like, ‘I was 19 when I came out with that song.’ The singer reflected on the public commentary surrounding her weight loss, sharing, “I’ve been on a fitness journey since I got healthy. And it started with when I was pregnant, I had gestational diabetes. And I was like, ‘Oh, I got to learn about health and fitness.'” Trainor went on to share that her newfound interest in health and fitness was inspired by her kids and her desire to tour for as long as possible. “If I want to tour forever, I got to be at my strongest,” she continued. “If I want to lift up my kids from their crib and not pull out my back.” Trainor added that she’s now “strength training three times a week in the gym” and is “focused on health. Now I’m obsessed with like how’s my hormones? How’s my gut? Because I just want to feel good, because this job is hard to do if you don’t feel good,” the “Still Don’t Care” singer added. “But I got a lot of hate for being thinner. So that confused me and rattled me,” Trainor said. In March, she faced criticism for her weight loss, and revealed in an Instagram post that she decided to take Mounjaro, the brand name for the GLP-1 injectable tirzepatide. Later that month, at Billboard’s 2025 Women in Music Awards, she shared that she began taking the medication after welcoming her second child with her husband, actor Daryl Sabara. The singer added that she worked with a dietician, made lifestyle changes and has a trainer. And I’m so glad I did because I feel great.” The Grammy winner released “Still Don’t Care,” the lead single from her upcoming album Toy with Me, earlier this month. “My page is usually a friendly, happy, mom-loving place, but it took a dark turn,” Trainor told PEOPLE exclusively of the context of the song ahead of the album announcement. “I liked the idea of.’Let me think about it one more time. Nope, I still don’t care,'” Trainor said. “And I know that when I start singing it, it’ll be my therapy, my exposure therapy.”.
