Braves’ Ronald Acuña Jr. Has 2-Word Message Amid Contract Uncertainty
Ronald Acuña Jr. is one of the best players in baseball, but he has dealt with his fair share of injuries throughout his career. He missed most of the 2024 season, but was named the National League Comeback Player of the Year at the MLB Award Show this year. Acuña slashed . 290/. 417/. 518 with 21 home runs in 95 games in his return from an ACL tear. He was named an All-Star for the fifth time. Acuña won the NL MVP Award in 2023, and his next contract figures to be a big one. His current $100 million deal seems like a bargain, and soon the Braves will have to pay him his current value. Acuña has this season and two $17 million club options remaining on his eight-year, $100 million deal. Extension talks are seemingly nearing, and the Braves star has made it known multiple times that he wants to stay in Atlanta. In a recent post on X, Acuña once again said he wants to be a Brave forever, and a fan replied asking if he could promise that was true. “I promise,” Acuña wrote in all caps on Friday. Acuña has spent his whole career with the Braves so far, and when healthy, has been one of the best players in the sport. After multiple knee injuries, it’s unclear if he will ever be the same threat on the basepaths he once was. However, the damage he can do at the plate alone makes him elite. His next deal will not be such a bargain for the Braves, but Acuña’s desire to stay with the Braves may make it easier to negotiate a somewhat team-friendly deal. However, until extension talks begin, Acuña’s future beyond 2028 remains uncertain. Despite how good he is, the Braves may be wary of paying him big considering his injury history. There has been no indication of extension talks between the two sides yet, but Acuña continues to assure fans he will stay in Atlanta.
