Liverpool forward signs landmark new deal
A 40-goal forward at Liverpool has penned a brand new deal that marks a significant milestone in his burgeoning career.
Arne Slot boasts a wealth of attacking talent at his disposal, but the main challenge this season has been player availability. Alexander Isak arrived at Anfield not fully fit and has since suffered several injuries, hindering his progress. Similarly, Jayden Danns, further down the pecking order, has also been plagued by injuries again this season.
As a result, much of the responsibility for leading the line has fallen on Hugo Ekitike. On occasion, Slot has experimented with Federico Chiesa and Florian Wirtz playing as false nines. However, Ekitike has predominantly shouldered the attacking burden.
Had circumstances been different, 17-year-old Will Wright might have featured as a backup forward this season. Liverpool signed Wright from Salford City over the summer, following an impressive spell in their academy where he netted over 40 goals last season. He also made multiple senior appearances, notably becoming one of only two 16-year-olds—including Rio Ngumoha—to feature in Liverpool’s FA Cup third-round tie last season.
Wright made an immediate impact upon signing. On the very day he joined Liverpool, he debuted for the first team in a friendly against Athletic Bilbao, showcasing impressive energy and drive. He came close to scoring, nearly capping off a perfect day.
Since that bright start, Wright has played a handful of games at U21 academy level. Unfortunately, he picked up an injury during Liverpool’s opening UEFA Youth League match against Atletico Madrid, sidelining him ever since. It’s a real shame, as there may have been first-team opportunities available to him had he remained fit.
The good news is that Wright is expected to return to action soon. There is optimism he will be fit and available for selection by December or January. Liverpool plan to manage his comeback carefully, avoiding any rush to prevent further injury setbacks.
In the meantime, Wright’s agency, Omnisports, has announced a major development in his career. The young Liverpool forward has signed a new deal with Nike, becoming one of the brand’s representative athletes.
Describing the deal as a “massive moment” for Wright, Omnisports posted on Instagram: “Nike believes. Will delivers.”
This endorsement deal further highlights the exciting potential seen in Will Wright as he continues to recover and aims to make his mark at Liverpool in the near future.
