🚨 USMNT earn impressive friendly win over Paraguay
The United States secured a victory over Paraguay in an international friendly on Saturday evening, a match notably marked by the return of Gio Reyna to the national team fold.
The game, held in a packed stadium in Philadelphia, saw Mauricio Pochettino’s side face off against the South American outfit. Fans were treated to an exciting start as Gio Reyna made his long-awaited comeback count early on. In the 4th minute, Reyna scored a superb headed goal after connecting with a precise cross from Max Arfsten.
However, the U.S. lead was short-lived. Just six minutes later, Paraguay’s Alex Arce leveled the score with a goal capitalizing on some poor defending from the U.S. side. This strike marked Arce’s first goal for his country, bringing renewed energy to the visitors.
As the match seemed to be heading toward a stalemate, Reyna once again influenced the game. He found himself in a dangerous position and delivered a well-timed ball into the box, which was expertly finished by the red-hot Folarin Balogun in the 71st minute. According to Opta, Balogun, who currently plays for Monaco, became only the fifth USMNT player in the last fifty years to have multiple streaks of four or more starts with a goal contribution.
The closing moments of the match were tense, with a major scuffle breaking out just in front of the benches during stoppage time. The altercation led to a member of the Paraguay coaching staff being sent off.
Despite the late drama, the U.S. held on for the 2-1 victory, marking their third consecutive win under the management of Mauricio Pochettino. The team continues to gain momentum as they prepare for upcoming competitions.
**Scorers:**
– Gio Reyna (4′)
– Folarin Balogun (71′)
