Over 220 Rockstar employees send letters to studio demanding reinstatement of fired staff
**Rockstar Games Faces Union Backlash Over Employee Firings**
Rockstar Games is facing significant criticism from gaming union workers after the recent dismissal of around 30 employees. The company claims these employees were fired for “gross behavior” and for leaking confidential company material. However, the IWGB Game Workers Union alleges that Rockstar’s actions amount to union busting.
According to the IWGB Game Workers Union, approximately 220 current Rockstar employees, all union members, have signed letters demanding that the 31 terminated workers be reinstated. The union announced these efforts on its website and stated that further demonstrations are planned in both London and Paris—scheduled for November 14 and November 18—as the affected employees remain out of work.
Rockstar Games has maintained its innocence amid the controversy, asserting that the firings were a consequence of employees allegedly sharing confidential materials in an unauthorized Discord server. However, the union disputes this narrative. Anonymous sources within Rockstar, cited by several outlets, have described an atmosphere of low morale and pointed to targeted firings within the studio.
The situation has reportedly impacted the development of Grand Theft Auto 6, which Rockstar recently delayed until November. While the company did not officially state the controversy as the reason for the delay, many believe that the ongoing dispute with union workers and the resulting internal turmoil have played a significant role in the decision.
As the demonstrations approach and tensions remain high, all eyes are on Rockstar Games to see how they will respond to the growing pressure from unionized workers and the wider gaming community.
