Rockstar Games has maintained its innocence amid the controversy, asserting that the firings were a consequence of employees allegedly sharing confidential materials in an unauthorized Discord server. However, the union disputes this narrative. Anonymous sources within Rockstar, cited by several outlets, have described an atmosphere of low morale and pointed to targeted firings within the studio.

The situation has reportedly impacted the development of Grand Theft Auto 6, which Rockstar recently delayed until November.
