Ousmane Dembele was in tears after winning the first Ballon d’Or Award of his career in Paris on Monday, September 22, 2025. The PSG forward became extremely emotional during his victory speech as he recounted his difficult upbringing and the immense sacrifices his family made for him to reach the stage he is at today.
In a touching moment, the host invited Dembele’s mother to join him on the podium. The pair shared a warm hug on stage, highlighting the strong bond and support that helped shape his journey.
Dembele edged out Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and PSG teammate Vitinha to claim the prestigious award for the best football player in the world. The French World Cup winner earned the trophy following an outstanding season with PSG, where his contributions played a crucial role in helping the club secure the treble. The 28-year-old forward couldn’t contain his tears as he paid tribute to his family in the audience after accepting the award from fellow Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldinho. After receiving the trophy, Dembele said:
