Newly-appointed San Francisco Supervisor Beya Alcaraz agrees to resign from role: mayor
SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — Newly-appointed San Francisco Supervisor Beya Alcaraz has agreed to resign from her role, Mayor Daniel Lurie announced in a press release Thursday night. The 28-year-old came under fire almost immediately after her appointment just a week ago.
Earlier this month, Mayor Lurie selected the 29-year-old former pet store owner as the new supervisor for the Sunset District. However, questions arose regarding her lack of political experience and her controversial management of a pet store she owned until recently in the city’s Sunset District.
Alcaraz was appointed to replace Joel Engardio, who was recalled following his support for closing the Great Highway.
In a statement, Alcaraz said, “I believe that my community deserves someone who will work 24/7 to advocate for us. And I understand that today’s news stories would distract me from doing that.”
