Analyst Pours Cold Water on Lane Kiffin Coaching Giants, Jaxson Dart
The New York Giants have decided to part ways with head coach Brian Daboll, putting a new spotlight on who the organization might hire as its next leader. With rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart showing promise as a potential above-average NFL quarterback and franchise cornerstone, the Giants’ coaching decision will likely hinge on finding someone Dart is comfortable with and who can continue his development.
**Giants Connected to Former Cowboys Coach to Replace Brian Daboll**
Over the coming months, many names will be floated as possible candidates for the Giants’ head coaching position. One name that stands out is Lane Kiffin, Dart’s former head coach at Ole Miss. A reunion between Kiffin and Dart could make a lot of sense given their previous connection.
However, Tyler Sullivan, an NFL analyst for CBS Sports, recently cast doubt on the likelihood of a Kiffin reunion in New York. He pointed out several factors that could influence Kiffin’s decision, including weather and the current landscape of college football coaching opportunities.
“If you are hoping that it could be current Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin, however, you might not want to get your hopes up,” Sullivan said. “Given the emergence of rookie sensation Jaxson Dart as a franchise cornerstone at quarterback, folks have drawn the logical line to giving Kiffin a call to see if he’d want to reunite with his former quarterback and return to the NFL.”
Sullivan added, “While weather might be a factor for Kiffin, so is the current landscape in college football. There are a number of high-profile jobs open, including at LSU, Penn State, and Florida, where he could be a leading candidate. He could also simply stay put at Ole Miss, where he currently has the Rebels in contention for the College Football Playoff.”
**Giants Urged to Hire Top College Coach as Brian Daboll Replacement**
It wouldn’t be too surprising to see Kiffin return to the NFL at some point. However, considering how much easier it often is to coach in college football compared to the NFL—and the immense pressure that comes with coaching in New York—Kiffin might prefer to continue his college coaching career for the time being.
As the Giants weigh their options, the organization’s priority will be finding a coach capable of developing Jaxson Dart and building a winning culture moving forward. The coaching carousel is sure to provide plenty of intrigue in the weeks ahead.
