Intel files lawsuit against ex-employee who allegedly copied 18,000 company files & disappeared

Intel has launched a lawsuit against a former employee accused of committing a serious act of corporate sabotage. According to the company, the ex-employee, Jinfeng Luo, copied approximately 18,000 files from corporate servers before disappearing.

Intel filed the lawsuit against Luo in Seattle District Court, as reported by The Oregonian news outlet. The company alleges damages totaling around $250,000 and is pursuing legal action should Luo reappear.

Luo was reportedly among those scheduled to be laid off by the end of 2025. He was informed of his termination on July 7, with his employment set to end on July 31. Following this notification, Luo allegedly attempted to copy company data by connecting an external drive to Intel hardware but was blocked by security measures.

However, about five days later, Luo reportedly used another storage device to successfully copy the files. Intel claims that some of these files contained “top secret” or “confidential” company information.

The unauthorized file transfer triggered an internal investigation. Intel has been attempting to contact Luo for months through three separate addresses but has been unable to locate him. His current whereabouts remain unknown as he has not appeared at any of the listed locations.

Intel continues its search for Luo while pursuing legal recourse to address the alleged data breach and damages caused.
