President Trump announces $2,000 checks for Americans from tariff revenue
**President Trump Proposes $2,000 Dividend for Americans Funded by Tariff Revenue**

President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he plans to give every American a $2,000 check funded by the tariff revenue collected by his administration.
“A dividend of at least $2,000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, adding that those opposed to tariffs are “fools.”
While this proposal would likely require Congressional approval, it resembles legislation introduced this summer by Republican Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), which aims to provide $600 tariff rebates to nearly all Americans and their dependent children.
“My legislation would allow hardworking Americans to benefit from the wealth that Trump’s tariffs are returning to this country,” Hawley said.
In August, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told CNBC that the administration’s priority is to use tariff revenue to pay down the $38.12 trillion national debt. The Treasury Department reported in September that it had collected more than $195 billion from tariffs in 2025, while Secretary Bessent anticipates the U.S. will collect $500 billion or more in tariff revenue annually.
On Sunday morning, Bessent told ABC’s *This Week* that the administration’s goal with tariffs was to “rebalance trade” rather than simply generate revenue.

**Community Reactions**
– *SeekAndFind commented:* “What happened to $5,000?”
– *Mr. Blond responded:* “But, but, but — there’s the possibility of the Supreme Court declaring the tariffs unconstitutional. Of course, $2,000 for most Americans would be difficult to claw back if the Supreme Court reverses them.”
