Kim Kardashian Reveals She Failed Bar Exam — But She’s ‘All In Until I Pass’
Kim Kardashian recently gave her followers an update on her journey to becoming a lawyer. In a post on her Instagram story on November 8, the Skims founder and star of Ryan Murphy’s new series *All’s Fair* shared news about her progress, including her bar exam results.
“Well, I’m not a lawyer yet, I just play a very well-dressed one on TV,” Kardashian wrote. “Six years into this law journey, and I’m still all in until I pass the bar. No shortcuts, no giving up—just more studying and even more determination. Thank you to everyone who has supported and encouraged me along the way so far.”
She added, “Falling short isn’t failure, it’s fuel. I was so close to passing the exam, and that only motivates me even more. Let’s go!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Kardashian has been open about her path to becoming a lawyer since April 2019. She began this journey following in the footsteps of her late father, Robert Kardashian, who passed away in 2003.
In a Vogue interview from May 2019, she shared that she made the decision to pursue a four-year law apprenticeship in the summer of 2018, with plans to take the bar exam in 2022. Kardashian was inspired to deepen her legal knowledge after being called upon by the White House to help advise on changes to the clemency system.
“I felt that I needed to know more being in the room,” she explained. “I would say what I had to say about the human side and why this is so unfair. But I had attorneys with me who could back that up with all the facts of the case.”
She emphasized the importance of teamwork in achieving change: “It’s never one person who gets things done; it’s always a collective of people. I’ve always known my role, but I just felt like I wanted to be able to fight for people who have paid their dues to society.”
Kardashian added, “I just felt like the system could be so different, and I wanted to fight to fix it. If I knew more, I could do more.”
California is one of four states that doesn’t require a law degree to take the bar exam. Instead, it allows prospective lawyers to complete an apprenticeship with practicing attorneys before sitting for the exam.
Addressing the backlash she received for choosing this path, Kardashian wrote on social media in April 2019, “I want people to understand that there is nothing that should limit your pursuit of your dreams and the accomplishment of new goals. You can create your own lanes, just as I am.”
