UC Davis Defeats Idaho 35-14 Behind Caden Pinnick’s Four Touchdowns
Moscow, Idaho (AP) – Caden Pinnick threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score to lead UC Davis to a 35-14 victory over Idaho on Saturday night.
Pinnick helped UC Davis (7-2, 5-1 Big Sky Conference) jump to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Ian Simpson followed by an 8-yard scoring strike to Samuel Gbatu Jr.
Idaho (4-6, 2-4) responded early in the second quarter when quarterback Joshua Wood capped a two-play drive with a 68-yard touchdown pass to Michael Graves, pulling the Vandals within 14-7 just 11 seconds into the quarter.
UC Davis extended their lead before halftime as Pinnick scored on a 22-yard run to finish a 10-play, 94-yard drive, giving the Aggies a 21-7 advantage with 2:17 left in the half.
In the third quarter, Pinnick threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Stacy Dobbins, the only score of the period.
Idaho’s Wood connected with Graves again for a 35-yard touchdown, cutting the deficit to 28-14 with 11:35 remaining in the game. Later, Wood drove the Vandals to the UC Davis 10-yard line with 2:46 left, but Jayden Stanley intercepted his fourth-down pass to end Idaho’s threat.
Pinnick finished the game completing 21 of 27 passes for 248 yards and two interceptions. Samuel Gbatu recorded seven receptions for 110 yards, while Jordan Fisher contributed 103 rushing yards on 21 carries.
Wood completed 20 of 38 passes for 297 yards with one interception. Michael Graves caught three passes totaling 112 yards.
