After ex is convicted of missing woman’s murder, investigators seek help finding her body
A man has been convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend in South County, though the location of her body remains a mystery. The search for Alexis Berenice Guadarrama Orozco continues as law enforcement officials seek the public’s help.
On Friday, authorities appealed for assistance in locating Guadarrama Orozco, who has been missing since the summer. Eduardo Magana, 48, of La Puente, was convicted by a Chula Vista jury of second-degree murder for the slaying of the 33-year-old woman.
Prosecutors revealed that Guadarrama Orozco met with Magana at the Star Motel in Otay Mesa on July 15. After that meeting, all communication between her and her loved ones ceased. According to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, Magana was “seen placing a large, heavy object in the trunk of his car in the early morning hours of July 16.”
Magana was arrested three days later in South Gate. He now faces a prison sentence of 15 years to life following his conviction. His sentencing is scheduled for December 2.
District Attorney Summer Stephan commented on the case, saying, “While this killer is being held accountable for his crime and justice is being delivered, Alexis Berenice’s family and friends also deserve the closure of knowing her remains can be laid to rest.”
Anyone with information on the missing woman is urged to contact the San Diego Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
