Olivia Rodrigo Blasts Homeland Security for Using Her Song in a Video
The singer recently took to the comments section of a post by the Department of Homeland Security (which includes the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, commonly known as “ICE”) and the White House to voice her outrage. The post featured her song “all american bitch” as the soundtrack to a video instructing immigrants to “self-deport” or “face the consequences.”
“Don’t ever use my songs to promote your racist, hateful propaganda,” she wrote.
This isn’t the first time the singer has spoken out against the Trump administration’s immigration policies. In June, she expressed her frustration over the “violent deportations” occurring in Los Angeles via her Instagram Stories.
“I’ve lived in LA my whole life and I’m deeply upset about these violent deportations of my neighbors under the current administration,” she shared. “LA simply wouldn’t exist without immigrants. Treating hardworking community members with such little respect, empathy, and due process is awful.”
She continued, “I stand with the beautiful, diverse community of Los Angeles and with immigrants all across America.”
In another post, Rodrigo shared a photo from one of the “No Kings” protests held in Los Angeles, further showing her support for immigrant rights.
The Trump administration has become notorious for using artists’ music without permission. Recently, Kenny Loggins criticized President Trump for using his song “Danger Zone” as the soundtrack for an AI-generated video that depicted the U.S. leader dropping poop on protestors.
“I request that my recording on this video be removed immediately,” Loggins wrote on Instagram. “I can’t imagine why anybody would want their music used or associated with something created with the sole purpose of dividing us. Too many people are trying to tear us apart, and we need to find new ways to come together.”
