Ex-Blue Jays, Mets 3-Year MLB Pitcher Let Go by Orioles
Thursday proved to be a significant day for player movement across Major League Baseball, signaling the end of the road for some players with their current teams. Left-handed pitcher Josh Walker was among those affected.
After being designated for assignment (DFA) by two teams during the regular season, Walker finished the year with the Baltimore Orioles. However, he never appeared in a major league game for Baltimore, and now there is a strong possibility that he never will.
According to the official MLB transactions log, Walker was designated for assignment by the Orioles on Thursday. He will be placed on waivers, and if he clears, he can choose to elect minor-league free agency rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Norfolk.
During his one-and-a-half-month stint with the Orioles organization, Walker made just six appearances for Norfolk. In those outings, he allowed two earned runs and struck out seven batters across 6 2/3 innings pitched.
Originally a 37th-round pick by the New York Mets, Walker has managed to spend a respectable amount of time on major league rosters. He appeared in 24 games for the Mets from 2022 through 2023, then pitched in three games this year for the American League champion Toronto Blue Jays.
This marks the fifth time Walker has been designated for assignment in the past 15 months. Following the Mets’ move last August, he was subsequently released by the Pittsburgh Pirates, Blue Jays, and Philadelphia Phillies.
Now 30 years old, Walker will hope that another team views him as a viable roster option—something the Orioles evidently chose not to do. Fans and followers of Walker will be watching closely to see where his career takes him next.
